Madekwe was raised by an ethnically mixed family. Her mother and father are both English. She was raised on the southern part of London Council Estate. She was a student at The Brit School aged 14. She was a student of acting in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. She was on stage in many productions while attending school like the role of King Henry V, as Princess Katherine, and Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe started her acting career in the movie Storm Damage. Over the past few years Madekwe's appearance in Teachers as well as Doctors. Her breakthrough role came in 2007's Woody Allen film Cassandra's Dream. It was in the role of Colin Farrell (who played the role of Cassandra) and Ewan McGrath. Madekwe made her debut in the US by presenting The Beautiful Life. The drama series was telecast on The CW for only two episodes, before it was ended. Apart from Secret Diary of a Call Girl they have also worked together on Salem and also he played an appearance with her on that show.

Ashley Leggat, a twice Gemini nominated actress is a member of a large family in Hamilton, Ontario. Her parents were Roy and Patty as well as her four brothers, Rob, Brett, and twins Todd and Bram.
